Conservative Politics And Liberal Theory

Monday, September 6th, 2010

John Locke was an atheist who believed in the supremacy of secular humanism – in other words, he believed that if humans were allowed to proceed unencumbered through life by either theocratic superstition or governmental interference, that we could achieve our greatest potential as citizens of the world. His theories were influential from Russia to the Americas, and had a profound impact upon the founding fathers of the United States, with special notation for his contributions to liberal theory. And that’s the funny part: Conservative politics have their roots in liberal theory. Conservatism as it is now, of course, is not Locke’s conservatism at all, but that kind of irony tends to be lost on people who consider themselves conservatives.

Conservatives Teapart from the GOP

Friday, February 19th, 2010

I was watching a debate this morning on fox where the democrat was accusing the republicans of deliberately not voting for jobs legislation because they don’t want the democrats to succeed in any way. Well this was almost comical to me because here is a guy who was an adviser to Biden so he is very typical of the left. Anyone who has been watching the news the past 9 years knows that these same democrats voted against everything that President Bush put on the table or the republicans in general. What a hypocrite.

I don’t belong to either party. I am a teapart. As far as I am concerned the republicans are light socialists and the democrats range from moderate socialists to marxists. Now I know a progressive is reading that and saying so what. Well those who realize that the constitution worked great until it began being ignored in the 1960′s, are the people you see on the news attending tea party rally’s. These teaparts are tired of being told what to do by big brother and are rising up before they lose the ability to rise up. If you want to live under an iron fist, then form cult and be happy. But those who treature liberty should not be in-slaved under marxism just because that is your thing.

The 2nd Amendment

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

Gary Willis, a historian and university professor wrote in his book A Necessary Evil: A History of American Distrust of Government the following:

… “Bear Arms refers to military service, which is why the plural is used (based on Greek ‘hopla pherein’ and Latin ‘arma ferre’) – one does not bear arm, or bear an arm. The word means, etymologically, ‘equipment’ (from the root ar-* in verbs like ‘ararisko’, to fit out). It refers to the ‘equipage’ of war. Thus ‘bear arms’ can be used of naval as well as artillery warfare, since the “profession of arms refers to all military callings.

Just discovered this listing for audio book authors – Guess what?

Geroge bush is listed as an audio books author! In the list of audiobook authors whose name starts with the letter B he shows up where he belongs: Bottom of the list :-)

The audiobook that is attributed to him is ‘All The Best, George Bush’ – sort of an auto biography.

A Dispassionate View on Evolution

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

With the recent court debates over ‘intelligent design,’ perhaps we should look at Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution without so much emotion.   Much of the negative commentary about evolution is based on misunderstanding of the scientific theory Darwin expounded.
