Are Two Political Parties Enough?

December 13th, 2008

I don’t know about you but I think there should be more than two major political parties. Politics in the U.S. seems to a zoo when the candidates spar with each other during their individual election campaigns. The candidates should more focused on what they (not the other candidate) will do if elected. I’m really sad that the focus of politics is on “cutting down the opponent” instead of “building up” the nation and the good of the people. I think our country would be better off if there were more than two major political parties.

11 ways to win the Presidency in 2008

October 13th, 2008

Number 1: Tie the economic recovery and the oil/gas crisis together. Announce a major X billion dollar program to fix the economy and get energy independence all in one, long term plan.

Number 3: Nationalize all the off shore drilling past the 10 or 20 mile limit. In other words, once you are 10 miles off shore, the states have no jurisdiction. All environment suits must be filed in one federal court. State courts will not have the right to hold up drilling permits any longer.

Conservative politics… How about liberal politics?

October 7th, 2008

According to Webster dictionary, as an adjective, conservative means tending to preserve established institutions, opposed to change, moderate or cautious. When used as a noun, it describes a conservative person. Webster’s thesaurus variously offers nuances on the word, such as traditional, reactionary, conventional, taking no chances, fearful, unimaginative and in a rut!

In the past three years I’ve read a blog regarding on political blogs and I feel like they have really enhanced my understanding of current events. We live in such a conservative society that much of the real news of what is going on is censored by the mainstream media. Unfortunately, political blogs don’t have the budget to do some of the things that the more mainstream news outlets do. They cannot have correspondents all over the world, for example, ready to report any event that happens. News analysis is a valuable service, and one that is completely neglected by the mainstream media. Thanks to political blogs, we can get beyond the the facile analysis provided by most of the news pundit shows.

In this hot political season, more insight and commentary about conservative politics can be found at our website. Please stop by and voice your opinion.

Government Grants

March 28th, 2008

Government grants are funds provided by the government to help its citizens financially. There are many types of government grants such as financial aids that help deserving students get a college education. State of Iowa chases Film Production with Tax Credits

January 12th, 2008

Iowa recently passed HF 892 which creates the Film Promotion Program & Tax Credits.  Iowa is known for two films, State Fair, and Bridges of Madison County.  With the creation of this Iowa Film Tax Credit program, the state is aggressively positioning itself as a film location for the shooting of television and movies.

The program provides for the issuance of tax credit certificates that are issued to investors in a movie or television production and the producer of a movie or television production for qualified expenditures made during filming within the state.

These tax credits are transferable which allows them to be bought and sold.  This creates a financing mechanism that helps attract producers to the state while selling the tax credits and utilizing the proceeds to help fund the production of their film.

Getting A Government Grant

December 16th, 2007

Do you need some cash and need it now? Hey, welcome to the club. I think it’s safe to assume that most adults in the United States are in need of additional funds. Is this because we typically have horrible and depressing incomes? No! It has more to do with our past and current spending habits.

Should the U.S. Government Bail Out Homeowners?

October 28th, 2007

We all know that many U.S. homeowners with sub-prime mortgages have gone into foreclosure or are at serious risk of going into foreclosure.  This crisis is so widespread that many lenders, including one of the largest mortgage lenders: Countrywide Financial, have taken a serious financial hit due to their sub-prime mortgage loans.  Some private banks have come to the rescue, like Bank of America’s assistance to Countrywide but the U.S. Government has also stepped in to pressure many sub-prime lenders to restructure their adjustable rate loans to sub-prime lenders.

Many are blaming the lenders for making inappropriate loans to sub-prime lenders that allowed them to receive an adjustable rate mortgage with little or no down payment. These borrowers could afford to make payments on the 100% loan-to-value ARMs with the low interest rates that were available at the time but after just a moderate increase in interest rates, these borrowers have seen their monthly payments increase significantly.  While the lenders should be held responsible for the financial impact to their company of making loans that were sure to have interest rate increases and higher monthly payments to borrowers who could barely afford the loan at the initial interest rates, the borrowers should also be responsible for accepting a loan they surely wouldn’t be able to afford in the near future.

This sub-prime mortgage crisis is also driving up housing rental prices across the country as many sub-prime lenders who probably should have been renting in the first place have lost their homes and the demand for rental housing has increased.  Investment/Rental property owners are enjoying the market price increases due to this activity as many owners are receiving many more inquiries from their condo and home rental advertising.

The U.S. Government is bailing out many of these borrowers for poor financial decisions and eliminating the personal consequences for these borrowers.  While the impact of this activity to the U.S. economy is undeniable, it is inappropriate for the Federal Government to be bailing out individual borrowers who made poor personal financial decisions.  These borrowers should not be able to keep a home that they cannot afford to pay for at current interest rates just because their defaults will have a negative impact on the economy.  The lenders and borrowers made bad decisions that will affect us all, but we must endure that consequence as a byproduct of our free market economy.

Time for Governments to Subsidise Anaerobic Digestion

August 23rd, 2007

Anaerobic Digestion is a cinderella among waste treatment technologies, and yet it provides a unique method by which the fuel methane is produced. Methane is natural gas. It is hardly necessary to point out that natural gas is an incredibly useful green fuel with the advantages that it can be:-

  • made from waste, waste slurries etc (energy that is freely available and would othewise be wasted);
  • burnt easily to create electricity plus heat which can be used for example to heat a greenhouse;
  • converted to hydrogen which is a clean fuel and can be used in an hydrogen fuel cell;
  • is a fuel unaffected by oil price and thus provides price stability;
  • converted to a biofuel for cars such as bioethanol.

However, the technology needs further development before it can show its full potential.  Governments can and should assist do so visit this Anaerobic Digestion site here to learn more and help to get this technology into the mainstream.

Fundraising for Political Science Majors Starts Early

July 13th, 2007

Many policy and decisions makers, and some of the country’s most influential people, got their start by studying political science. If you plan to major in poli sci in college you better hit the campaign trail early if you’re interested in receiving political science scholarships. Most colleges offer political science scholarships through their political science departments. These grants, fellowships and awards are often given in honor of alumni or local community leaders. The big political science scholarship bucks, however, lie with national organizations, many of which fall into the public policy center/institute/endowment arena. This is a double edged sword. On one hand, there are lots of institutes with lots of scholarship dollars to pass out. On the other, most of the scholarships pull applicants from across the nation so there is plenty of competition. For more information about political science scholarship.

1776 – The Story of Americans in the Ranks

January 4th, 2007
1776 (Unabridged)

Written By : David McCullough
Narrator : David McCullough
Publisher : Simon & Schuster
12 hours
Type : American Pre 1900
Based on extensive research in both American and British archives, 1776 is the story of Americans in the ranks, men of every shape, size, and color, farmers, schoolteachers, shoemakers, no-accounts, and mere boys turned soldiers. And it is the story of the British commander, William Howe, and his highly disciplined redcoats who looked on their rebel foes with contempt and fought with a valor too little known. But it is the American commander-in-chief who stands foremost — Washington, who had never before led an army in battle.

OSHA safety regulations

January 2nd, 2007

I had no idea how out of compliance I was. Just reading OSHA safety regulations is a nightmare. They do nothing to make it easy for you, and nothing in OSHA safety regulations is as simple as wear a helmet, or don’t work your men all day without a few breaks. Everything has technical specifications and procedures. I guess I understand. If they were working under a ruthless boss who didn’t care about their well being, OSHA safety regulations would be the only safeguard that my crew would have. But I can’t help wishing for a simpler, more common-sense approach to safety.

How to Choose a Lawyer

October 10th, 2006

Lawyers and attorneys are one of the most common professions – and for good reason.  There are many reasons consumers and corporations will use the services of a legal professional.   While there are plenty of jokes and TV shows dedicated to the legal practice, most consumers are not informed about what type of lawyer they really need or how to select the right one for them.  Though there are a plethora of lawyers in our society, this does not mean it will be easy for you to find the one who will be the best for you.

911 Spurs Innovation in Public Criminal Records Access

July 14th, 2006

September 11th led employers and property managers to believe in the need to conduct more comprehensive background and public criminal records checks on prospective employees or tenants. Because our society is mobile, checking public criminal records or background information in a single county or state is no longer enough. To truly identify a person’s entire public criminal record or history of past offenses, a nationwide check of public criminal records is in order.

Searching nationwide public criminal records can be a tedious process that includes a check of available information from every single registry from every state, county, parish, or community. With increased demand for records and timesaving techniques, online companies offering huge collections of databases have surfaced.
