Iowa Tourism/ It’s Party Time

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

It’s party time in Iowa and you aren’t going to want to miss it!  Iowa tourism should be flourishing until the 3rd of January when the caucus is held and then the candidates and most of their staff members will book out of the state to go try to convince some other state residents that their line of crap is the best line of crap out there!

Now Iowa tourism may be a term that most of the candidates and their staff would not believe they qualify to be placed with, after all, they are candidates, not tourists.  Well, let’s see, they come in to the state, they stay in hotels, they eat at our restaurants, they buy gasoline for their cars which they drive from one corner of the state to the other.  They visit museums, corn processing plants, city halls, ball games and more.  They spend great amounts of money in the state and then, alas, they leave for another 4 years.  I think that qualifies them as tourists.

Now, don’t get me wrong, we love having them here.  Both the Demo crates and the Republicans are more than welcome to come to Iowa.  They spend their money all over the state which helps with the Iowa tourism economy.  In most cases they are polite, at least out in public, and they respect the citizens of Iowa (at least out in public).  They are a wonderful addition to the normal tourist that visits the state, we would love to have them come and spend time here after the election, but you can bet your bottom dollar that a little bitty state like Iowa isn’t on the top of their “I need to go back there” list!  Oh well, we’ll take what we can get.

The Political Process Of Name Changes

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

There are other reasons why people seek name changes. Possibly they are just unhappy with their name and want to change it to something else. This is okay as long as it is not being changed with some type of fraudulent intent in mind. In other words, people cannot change their names or assume the identity of another simply to avoid creditors or other type of legal action. Name change requests cannot be offensive, as in a racial slur, or be intentionally confusing. So with this in mind, how did Prince change his name to an unrecognizable symbol if it’s not allowed?

Alistair Cooke - Letter From America - Audio

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

From 1941 to 2003 Alistair Cooke was the British voice in America. The most important of his reports are compiled in three volumes of the ‘Letter from America‘, great audio books and time documents.

Many Britons thought that Alistair Cooke was American, but to the Americans he was the quintessential Brit, the man who brought them the best of British television as presenter of Masterpiece Theatre. For his part, he explained, “I feel totally at home in both countries.”

Alistair Cooke impressed both audiences with his high quality work. With his unquenchable curiosity, Alistair Cooke remained for decades the consummate broadcaster, an elegant writer and a man of enormous wit and charm who made sense of the American Century.

Writing Articles And Teasers That Force People To Read On

Wednesday, June 7th, 2006

It’s vital to catch a readers attention in the first few seconds, when you write articles, otherwise you risk loosing their interest and they’re gone……. Same as for a political speech, if you don’t provoke thought or controversy, nobody will listen to you.

To get the readers attention, it’s important to start off with a lead paragraph that very briefly describes what you are going to tell the reader and why. You must grab the readers attention and give him a very good reason why reading your article is worth his time.

A great way to write an article is to start the lead paragraph with a statement, then go through the explanations and information that you want to pass on and, in your conclusion, draw a line back to the initial statement you made. This neatly wraps up everything and in the mind of the reader ‘encapsulates’ the article.
